The Spring Mountains rise out of the desert creating a spectacular mountain environment that provides a home for many unique plants and animals as well as a retreat for the Las Vegas community. The Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, known to many as "Mt Charleston", is only 45 minutesnorthwest of Las Vegas and offers year-round recreation opportunities including hiking, camping, and picnicking, as well as snow-based activities in the winter.
